What Is “Native Whey”?
Our latest innovation, Designer Whey®? Native Whey Isolate, starts with the best whey to create a superior performance protein. If you haven’t heard of “native whey”, you may be wondering what it is and what all the hype is about- whey is whey, right? We’re breaking down why native whey is different and what that means for you.
What is “Native Whey”?
Native Whey protein is arguably the cleanest, least processed whey protein available. Due to the process of creating native whey, Native whey has unique functional and compositional properties compared to traditional cheese whey. Native whey contains an inherently high concentration of the branched chain amino acid, leucine, which is probably the most important amino acid to human physiology and performance. Leucine is the anabolic trigger that stimulates the body to release natural insulin, and promotes protein synthesis, which leads to increased muscle mass and body strength. It is also higher in the amino acids: tryptophan and cysteine. Tryptophan increases serotonin, which helps support endurance during exercise. Cysteine is a pre-cursor to the most abundant and naturally occurring anti-oxidant in the body- glutathione.
How is “Native Whey” made?
Native whey starts from a clean & natural source. Designer Whey’s Native Whey is made with non-GMO, grass-fed milk that has no artificial growth hormones or antibiotics. It is then micro-filtrated and ultra-filtrated directly from skim milk at a very low temperature, to preserve the most beneficial fractions of the milk. Native whey avoids the cheese making process, unlike regular whey protein isolate which is collected after the cheese-making process and typically contains cheese residues, chemical agents, and exposes the whey to additional pasteurization at high temperatures, denaturing the protein and reducing the natural nutrition properties of whey.
