HOW TO STAY FUELED ON THE GO

As founder and CEO of The Sweat Life (sweatlifenyc.com), I am constantly on the go! Whether I am running to try a new workout, running to a shoot, running to a meeting, or just…going for a run – it can be challenging to make sure I stay properly fueled throughout my day. Whether you run your own company or workout for a living, are a mom on the go, a young professional, or just busy, I know this is a struggle for so many people.

 

Here are 5 ways I stay fueled, even on my busiest days!

 

  1. Make sure to eat plenty of protein!

Protein is a building block of nutrition and health – from building (or recovering) muscle, to providing essential amino acids, to keeping up a healthy immune system, protein is absolutely essential. Protein also helps you stay more satiated throughout the day, but keeping your metabolism in check and helping you keep a steady blood sugar level – both of which are crucial to keeping you feeling full and fueled for a day on the go! I make sure to get protein in with every meal or snack. Quick tips: ways carry a protein bar in your bag (my favorite is Go Macro Bars). Keep a high quality powder protein at home and in the office which can even just be mixed with water (my go-to is Designer Protein as I don’t have to worry about getting a huge shot of sugar and chemicals that so many protein powders include). Start loving quinoa!

 

  1. Eat Breakfast!

There is a reason they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Not only does it kick off your metabolism, but it an essential part of waking up your entire system for the rest of your day. My breakfast go-to’s: Two eggs with greens – This gives me that shot of protein as well as starting my day with nutrient packed greens. Oatmeal with nuts and berries. Chia pudding. Protein shake with fruits and veggies.

 

  1. Hydrate!

It can be easy to forget how important it is to stay hydrated, but hydration is essential to any healthy diet. There is a reason the human body can sustain longer without food than it can without water. And while it may seem drinking those 8 glasses of water a day is enough, it’s actually just as important to pay attention to the quality of water you are drinking and that your body is actually absorbing it. I stick to Essentia water, which has a 9.5 pH and plenty of electrolytes to make sure I am not just getting hydrated, but staying hydrated.

 

  1. Avoid sugar!

While some sugars, like fruit sugars, can be okay, processed sugar will cause your blood sugar to spike – and then drop – which not only makes you feel hungry and tired, but can also cause cravings for more sugars, as well as mess with your concentration and general energy levels. If you are used to having that 4pm diet coke – just cut it out. Opt for some green or matcha tea instead. If that bowl of candy in the office is calling your name, try having some hot water with lemon or peppermint tea – both of which are great at keeping those sugar cravings at bay!

 

  1. Eat small and often!

Portion control is an essential part to any healthy diet – from weight management to energy management. Try to eat 6-8 small meals and snacks throughout the day, which will not only keep you satisfied, but keep you energized – even through the busiest of days!
