HOW TO CHOOSE THE “BEST WORKOUT” FOR YOU
A question I get asked all the time is “What is the best workout?” My response is always the same, “The best workout you can do, is the one you WILL do.” You are much more likely to do something if you enjoy doing it. You will find dozens of articles that tell you, “studies have shown this/that is the best exercise and will burn more calories than something else”. The study sounds great but what it comes down to is will we actually do it?
So often we get caught up in what the best workout is or how long to do it for, that we forget to do anything at all. This is what I call “Paralysis by Analysis” and is very common with people when starting something new. We spend so much time coming up with the perfect solution that sometimes we end up wasting precious time we could’ve used to get started in the first place.
That is my challenge to you, figure out what you LIKE to do, and do it. If you enjoy running, start there; if you enjoy going to the gym and lifting weights, do that. If you are one of those people that struggles to start in the beginning, remember that something is better than nothing. I see people go full steam at first but end up burning themselves out a week later, and feeling like this “Healthy Lifestyle” is too hard for them, and they go back to their old ways.
Start small! It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, it can be as easy as walking to the coffee shop instead of driving like you usually do. Maybe take the stairs instead of the elevator. The littlest of actions done every day will make the biggest difference in the long run!
Challenge of the Week:
Every day this week make 1 healthier choice you normally wouldn’t have made last week. Don’t repeat that choice all week, let’s try and stack 7 things by the end of the week. Here are some examples: Water instead of soda, stairs instead of the elevator, salad instead of fries, parking at the end of the parking lot, etc.
